The U.S. Department of Energy has launched the Energy Storage Research Alliance (ESRA), a new national hub focused on advancing battery technologies. Led by Argonne National Laboratory and co-led by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, ESRA aims to drive innovations in high-energy, safe, long-lasting, and cost-effective batteries using abundant materials. It brings together nearly 50 researchers to address critical challenges in energy storage, with up to $62.5 million in funding over five years to accelerate breakthroughs for decarbonization and energy resilience.
