Rubbery organic frameworks (ROFs) toward ultrapermeable CO2-selective membranes

This study introduces Rubbery Organic Frameworks (ROFs) as an innovative material for CO2 capture membranes, merging high permeability with exceptional selectivity. Developed by integrating rubbery polymers with molecular sieving frameworks, these membranes achieve CO2 permeabilities of up to 1000 Barrer and CO2/N2 selectivities as high as 104. Unlike traditional membranes, ROFs perform effectively in fully humidified environments, a common condition in industrial emissions, where water vapor enhances CO2 separation efficiency. These materials also address challenges such as brittleness and defects in film formation, making them suitable for industrial scaling. By leveraging advanced molecular designs and robust structural properties, ROFs present a promising solution for energy-efficient gas separation and industrial carbon capture.
