Scientists from the University of Science and Technology of China have developed a method for in-situ growth of crown ether@UiO-66 membranes under mild conditions. These membranes, which are used for precise ion separation, exhibit high efficiency in separating monovalent ions from complex mixtures. The UiO-66 framework allows perfect confinement of crown ether molecules, enhancing ion flux and selectivity. This innovation could improve processes like lithium extraction and wastewater treatment. The research, published in Science Advances, offers theoretical guidance for creating advanced ion separation membranes.
