This article presents a breakthrough simulation method that provides new insights into Earth’s magnetic field generation and advances neuromorphic computing. Researchers combined molecular dynamics and spin dynamics to simulate the behavior of 2 million iron atoms under extreme temperatures and pressures, mimicking Earth’s core conditions. This method revealed that magnetism significantly influences iron’s properties, supporting the role of specific phases like the hypothesized BCC phase in the geodynamo effect, which generates Earth’s magnetic field. Beyond geophysics, the simulation has applications in developing energy-efficient AI hardware and advanced data storage systems inspired by brain-like neuromorphic computing, paving the way for faster and greener technological innovations.

In general, if you enjoy reading this kind of scientific news articles, I am always keen to connect with fellow researchers in materials science, including the possibility to discuss about any potential interest in the Materials Square cloud-based online platform ( www.matsq.com ), designed for streamlining the execution of materials and molecular modelling simulations!
The Materials Square platform in fact provides extensive web-based functionalities for computational chemistry/materials research and training/education purposes, as detailed also in the following PDF brochure: https://www.materialssquare.com/wp-content/uploads/Materials_Square_Brochure_2022-compressed_1674181754.pdf
Many thanks for your interest and consideration,
