This article presents a techno-economic assessment of thin lithium metal anodes for solid-state batteries (SSBs), focusing on their potential to enhance energy density and efficiency for electric vehicles. SSBs offer significant advantages over conventional lithium-ion batteries, such as higher energy density and improved safety. The study evaluates manufacturing methods for thin lithium anodes, identifying thermal evaporation as the most viable technique for producing high-quality, scalable lithium films at lower costs. Despite the promising benefits, challenges remain, including high production costs, technological barriers to mass production, and the need for further advancements in material science. The analysis concludes that while SSBs may initially incur a cost premium compared to traditional batteries, their superior performance and safety features make them a compelling option for future adoption.
