Revolutionizing thermoelectric technology: Hourglass-shaped materials achieve a 360% efficiency boost

Researchers at POSTECH and George Washington University have developed a new design for thermoelectric materials that significantly boosts their efficiency. By shifting from traditional cuboid shapes to an hourglass geometry, they achieved a 360% increase in power generation efficiency. This innovation, enabled by advanced 3D printing techniques, improves the thermoelectric performance index (ZT) and could have broad applications in renewable energy, including thermoelectric power generation and cooling technologies. The findings were published in Nature Energy.
