Thermoelectric materials approach boosts band convergence to avoid time-consuming trial-and-error approach

Researchers at the University of Houston and Rice University have developed a new method to enhance the efficiency of thermoelectric materials. By predicting band convergence in materials using a calculation-based approach, they avoid the traditional trial-and-error process. This technique was validated with a p-type Zintl compound, achieving over 10% heat-to-electricity conversion efficiency. The materials demonstrated stable performance for more than two years, offering a promising solution for improving thermoelectric power generation.
